I left the corporate world in London thriteen years ago and never looked back. I was doubtful then that I could make it solely as a Gong Practitioner, but I proved myself wrong and have since traveled the world and created a community of like minded people around me, whilst doing something fulfilling and with meaning whilst helping others.
This full retreat immersion is designed for those who have not touched a gong in their life or those who want to go deeper and learn what it takes to play the gong with confidence and set up a professional business to enable them to sustain doing what they love.
Located in a remote part of Koh Phangan, Had Tien Bay which can only be entered by a long tail boat or a jeep across the jungle, The Sanctuary is the perfect place to dedicate a week of your life to becoming a Certified Gong Practitioner and learn everything that we have learnt the long way round over the last thirteen years to set up a thriving sound healing business.

Andy and I are so excited to host you at this incredible place where we bought a Teacher Training group in 2025, which captured everyones hearts, minds and spirit. I also stayed an extra two months as the Resident Sound Healer for The Sanctuary. Be prepared not to leave!
The Sanctuary is impeccably run with the most friendly and efficient staff. They know from years of experience (opened in 1989) what it takes to give everybody what they need, the yin and the yang.
Aside of attending the compulsory Gong & Beats sessions, you are welcome to take part in extra curricular activities offered by The Sanctuary. These include all types of yoga, pilates, circuit training, meditation, inspirational talks with world class teachers, an ice bath, steam room, massage and other treatments, live music nights with open mic and jamming sessions (bring your instruments!).
The vegetarian and seafood is healthy and delicious and you can even partake in an alcoholic beverage. For those who still have their inner raver in them, you can join in dance parties in the jungle at the weekend. Or if this all sounds far too energetic, you can spend your down time lounging around in a hammock on the beach or chilling out listening to the sounds of the jungle.
Koh Phangan is a magical island in South East Thailand. The energy and vibration is high, I felt such a massive heart opening when I arrived there. I knew immediately it was my place to teach. It is an adventure to get there, but that adds to a memorable experience that you will talk about for years to come. Even my 87 year old mum made it!
From my years of attending retreats all over the world for leisure and as a Gong Practitioner, this is the best run place I have been to, providing you with a little bit of everything to have the most amazing holiday, whilst being in an experiential and learning environment.

Andy & Anna
Andy & Anna started their journey together eleven years ago as Gong & Didge (yes that was our original brand name!) and have since run a retreat centre - Peopletree Mallorca in Spain for seven years, got married and created events around the world.
ANNA grew up in London and spent eighteen years working in TV Marketing. She left her career as Head of Marketing at BBC One after taking a sabbatical and realising that there were other exciting ventures to be had. Simultaneously to working at The BBC, she did her Gong Practitioner Training and Kundalini Yoga Teacher training over a year. This began a huge transformation which lead Anna to pursue the spiritual path full time. Once covid hit, Andy & Anna needed to review the future of their retreat centre. Anna had a download one night and wrote the headlines on her Iphone. She printed it the next day and it filled three pages of A4. This was then the start of The Gong Business School, which Anna launched three years ago online to future proof the business. Anna´s passion for the gong and the school have gone from strength to strength.
Anna´s mission is "to raise the vibration and get the gong out to as many people who need it right now ". She teaches mainly online to spread the word further, but due to popular demand, she has stepped back in to running in person retreats, teaching you everything she knows in a fun, informative and inspiring way. She is also the founder of Gong International, a thriving community on facebook of over 11,000 International Gong Enthusiasts.
Anna is also an International DJ and has more recently merged her DJ Productions and The Gong Business School in to Gong & Beats. She really believes that Deep House Music and Sound Healing are BOTH forms of meditation and is bringing her new concept to International locations.
ANDY has been passionate about music from a young age and trained as a classical guitarist, his other love is the didgeridoo and as many other instruments he can get his hands on. He is a also a Music Producer and Commercial Drone Pilot.

We recommend a variety of places in walking distance with varying price ranges. Some are on site.
It is peak season in January, so best to book early.
Most are rustic, whilst providing you with all your creature comforts, good beds,
nice sheets. fans etc. You need to have a reasonable amount of fitness to climb stairs in rugged areas.

We will begin The Teacher Training at 2pm on Monday 18 January.

The day will kick off with a breathwork session to get you in to a good learning head space.
You will simultaneously learn sequences of breathwork that you can use as a precursor to playing the gong to your clients.

The day will end with a relaxing Gong Bath. This will be a combination of Anna playing and an opportunity for students to step in to perform in front of an audience.
Certification
A Certificate Of Sound Healing will be issued upon attendance of ALL The scheduled classes on The Teacher Training.(see example schedule in the WHAT¨S INCLUDED section above)
To qualify for the certificate, each student must attend all classes and perform playing the gong in front of Anna. There will be a handful of slots available to play in front of a group. First come first served.
Each student will have a one to one with Anna during The Teacher Training.

Food and Drinks
The Sanctuary pride themselves on their cooking, you will be wanting to take home their cook book! No M.S.G. or preservatives are used. includes traditional Thai cuisine and scrumptious vegetarian and seafood dishes from around the world. No meat is served.
We will book a table for each meal if you want to join the group. Meals and drinks are to be paid by the students individually and are NOT included on the Teacher Training.
Neighbouring Spice are open for dinner and serve delicious Thai Food.
LUNCH times are planned between the hours of 12pm & 1pm
DINNER times are planned between the hours of 7pm & 8pm
The Sanctuary kitchen opens at 8am if you want to grab any food or beverages throughout the day and evening (outside of the scheduled classes).
In addition, there are mini markets selling drinks, snacks and basics in the little village behind The Sanctuary. These are NOT part of The Sanctuary and need to be paid for in cash.
Other Activities At The Sanctuary
Aside of attending the `compulsory´ Teacher Training classes, to receive your certificate (see example schedule in the what´s included section above), there are other activities at The Sanctuary. The picture illustrates an example of what was available in 2025. This will change, but is likely to include many types of yoga, massage, meditation, ice baths, guest inspirational speakers. All extra activities are to be paid by you directly to The Sanctuary.
Treatments
There is a variety of wonderful holistic treatments in The Spa at The Sanctuary. Please book at the spa in your free time `outside´ of The Teacher Training classes. We really want you to get the best out of this training and have allowed plenty of free time for you to rest and do the other activities. Example of treatments available in picture attached from 2025. Subject to change.
What To Pack
Less is more when travelling to Thailand You will need to move your bag between planes, boats and automobiles. A backpack is ideal, but suitcases can be accommodated.
Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light.
The temperature in January is around 30°c. We recommend the following:

There are NO ATMs at The Sanctuary. Please bring cash in THB to pay for drinks and snacks in the minimarkets, shopping, transport to and from The Sanctuary.
Remember to check whether you need a visa to enter Thailand. Check your country / passport here: https://www.thaievisa.go.th/
Check with your doctor whether you require vaccinations for your country and bring your own medical kit of basics that they recommend. eg Diarrhea tablets, antihistamine, paracetamol, ibrupofren, plasters etc. Remember to bring your own prescription medicines. There are no pharmacies within easy reach of The Sanctuary. The closest will be a 30 Min boat ride to Haad Rin.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO MEDIC OR PHARMACY ON SITE AT THE SANCTUARY. THE NEAREST IS A 30 MIN BOAT TAXI AWAY.
How To Get To The Sanctuary
We recommend leaving at least a day either side of the retreat dates 18 - 23 Jan. Due to wind, sometimes boats get cancelled between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan and vice versa. Koh Samui is the domestic airport you need to fly in and out of. It is worth getting a flexible ticket. No International flights land here directly. Please plan carefully. You many want to overnight in Koh Samui or Bangkok to have a buffer date either side.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM THE SANCTUARY:
If you will arrive at Koh Samui Airport, you may also be interested in the Speedboat Transfer. It is quicker and more comfortable than the main ferry.
The Sanctuary can arrange an airport pickup, transfer to the boat, and bring you directly to the Sanctuary for 7,500 THB. per trip/ per way. If this sounds like something that you'd like, please let them know your flight details and passenger information. If you are staying at The Sanctuary, the cost will be added to your room account to settle prior to check out. Speedboat reservations can be made only up to one week in advance, so please send us a reminder email at that time (anytime during the first week of January is sufficient).
For safety reasons, please ensure your flight lands no later than 16:45.

Wi-Fi
There is Wi-fi throughout The Sanctuary. However, we are on an island and the generators reset a few times a day. If you have important business to attend to whilst you are away, we recommend an international sim-card that you can set up on your phone via an app before you leave. We use Airalo - www.airalo.com
